Healthy Lifestyle Tips for Teen Girls

You’re a typical young woman in today’s world … but have you ever really thought about what you can do to make your lifestyle healthier? Being a teenage girl is stressful and can be difficult. And life can be even more difficult if you don’t care of yourself. But what does that means? Here are a few easy tips you can follow to improve your quality of life.

Friends and family. Create and maintain a support system! When you’re going through something really hard or stressful – problems with your boyfriend, trouble at school, or you just feel down – having someone else to share your feelings with will make you feel better. While this person can be your mom, your dad, or a sibling, sometimes you just don’t feel comfortable spilling your guts to the people you share a living space with. Be sure that you have friends you can really open up to – people who you can share with, and who you know will keep your secrets.

Drink more water! Sounds silly, right? Wrong! This isn’t even just a problem facing teenagers today – everyone could stand to drink a little more water. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day maintains your metabolism and helps your immune system improve. And even though it sounds gross, the more water you drink, the more you urinate, and the more you flush unhealthy substances out of your body.

Get some sleep! Being in high school is stressful – you just don’t have time to do everything you need to do! But you shouldn’t sacrifice your sleep in favor of staying up late to do homework or texting your friends. Most teenagers need between seven to eight hours of healthy sleep on a regular basis. The later you stay up, and the more erratic are your sleep patterns, the greater your chances for developing insomnia. This means that your health stands a chance to really suffer if you don’t get the sleep you need. Then how do you expect to ever earn that online masters degree in health care administration someday?

Develop good hygiene habits. This can be hard too, but it’s worth it. Brush your teeth two or three times a day, wash your face, keep your hair clean, and wear deodorant. The way you look (and smell!) influences how you feel about yourself. Therefore, the better your hygiene, the better you’ll feel, and the healthier you’ll be.

Know who you are. This is the hardest one of all to work on, but the quality that will keep you strong, motivated, and help you develop a healthier lifestyle. Understanding who you are and why you behave the way you do goes a long way toward developing good self esteem and a strong self image. You can help to understand yourself by keeping a journal or a diary where you note how you feel and why you feel that way. Once you get comfortable with you, it will be easier to develop other healthier lifestyle tricks in no time!
