It’s the holiday season, and since it’s the most wonderful time of the year, you’re going to want to have over some of your best girlfriends for a killer party. Here are a few tips to help you plan for the hottest holiday party ever:
Pre-plan. Before you can approach your parents to ask for permission, you’re going to want to have a party strategy all planned out – like a business proposal. Have the number of girls in mind, even if you’re not sure yet who you’ll be inviting. It’s going to be up to you to be responsible for decorating and cleaning up, so be ready to pitch that to your parents. Part of your planning should include exactly what you’re planning for your guests to do: dance party? Movies (perhaps a few with a holiday theme)? What night are you thinking, what time will the party start, and when will it end? (If the day is too close to the holidays, you risk no shows. If it’s too far, it’s going to be awkward.) Is it a slumber party? And most importantly, what kinds of holiday dishes are you going to prepare to feed your guests? This is a brainstorming session, so let it all out.
Permission time. Your parents have the power to put the kibosh on your good time, so fully prepare what you plan to say to them in advance. Also, be as respectful as you can when the times come to ask. You might have to negotiate, so have a list of back-up options ready.
Guest list. Once you’ve got the go-ahead, start to compile the list of the girls you’re going to have over. Of course you’ll want to invite all your besties, but make sure to keep in mind factors that could get out of control, such as girls who don’t get along, drama queens, and wallflowers. Since this will be a theme party, include suggestions for dress (ugly sweater? red and green? blue and silver?) and, if you’re going pot-luck, something to bring (Christmas cookies are always a solid option).
Prep time. Once you’ve settled on your menu, you can begin preparing the food. Depending on how extravagant your shindig is, you may have to begin a day or two in advance. Make the cold things first so you can chill them in the refrigerator. You’ll also want your house to look its best, so clean, clean, clean! This includes any bathroom you plan for your guests to use. Utilize pine boughs and red berries in your décor, as this will lend a definite festive air to your get together. Set everything out five to ten minutes before you expect your guests. Then let the party commence!
Afterwards. Check with your parents to make sure that you followed all the steps and that everything is cleaned up and put away. This shows them how mature you are as well as proving to them that you are capable of making responsible decisions for yourself. And pulling off a successful holiday party for teenage girls is a huge deal. You’ll deserve big kudos!
